This bonus room turned playroom is an extension of the rest of the family home.
This playroom not only functions as a play space, but also second living room & guest sleeping quarters. In keeping with the home's existing aesthetic, we opted for a more neutral palette; black and white with warm woods, natural elements & plants.
Limiting brightly coloured plastic toys and opting for more natural objects and woven baskets for storage keeps with the environmentally mindful nature of this home. Eclectic pieces from travels are thoughtfully placed throughout. Complete with kids kitchen & role play area.

HELLO! I’m Makyla.
A graduate of the Interior Design Institute, I am a certified Interior Stylist and the woman behind Planted Creative.
Also a certified Early Childhood Educator, I bridge design & education to specialize in interiors for children & families, as well as providing educational resources to promote & encourage learning at home.
A wife & mama of two, I am enthusiastically passionate about healthy & happy living, and believe a little laughter & kindness go a long way! I'm a maker at heart & a conscious-creative; thrifting / re-purposing / refurbishing are my love language & I take great pride in my ability to breathe new life into existing pieces.
With extensive knowledge of early childhood development and needs of the modern family, I am here to provide you with the information and expertise needed to ensure your beautiful home is fully functional & designed with your littles in mind; comfortability, safety, and style!
My Journey
Born into a life of home builds & renovations, my love of interior design stems from the very beginning! After many years and countless personal renovations & home projects, I eventually started helping friends and family with their own interior projects. While at home on maternity leave with our youngest, I chose to pursue a career in interior design.
An educator for 10+ years, I am passionate about child development and a major advocate for learning through play. I believe children are naturally curious about the world around them, making everyday life full of learning opportunities; providing them with purposeful places to support growth & little imaginations is the key to happy kids!
As an entrepreneur and work-from-home mom of two free-spirited & busy little ones, life is fast-paced; I truly understand everyday life in a home with children & how vital a functional environment is for a happy home life.
Incorporating my two loves, education & design, Planted Creative has come to fruition. I am here to help you elevate the functionality of your home and create beautiful & inviting spaces your whole family will enjoy - a home that truly reflects all of you!
