Frozen Penguin Rescue

Penguin obsession in our house lately! Books, activities, songs, TV shows... you name it. So, naturally, I created this frozen play activity to keep our littles busy while I work!

Frozen layers of water, coloured water, shaving cream, and loose parts created the perfect frosty invitation to play.

Pair with a container of warm water with droppers & scoops, and you've got a great fine-motor activity.

Watch the ice melt, layer by layer, to rescue the penguins and find all the neat treasures along the way!

Materials:

  • glass casserole dish

  • water / warm water

  • blue food colouring

  • shaving cream

  • bowl

  • scoops & spoons & droppers

  • craft snowflakes & gems, twigs, penguin figurines

  • a tray or something to hold all the pieces while they play

In This Activity

  • Spark Conversation — chat about penguins & penguin types, their habitats, diet, predators, etc.

  • Fine Motor Work & Concentration — manipulating these small pieces are great for those little hands & muscles, as well as scooping & pouring.

  • Sensory — ice, water, shaving cream; so many textures & even temperatures, as everything melts.

Happy playing!
