Holiday Shelfie

It's just over a week until Christmas, ya'll! There are so many opportunities for festive play around this time, and our littles are absolutely in love with the magic this time of year brings.


Take a closer look at the collection of 9 holiday-inspired activities (THREE available in the shop) currently on our playroom shelves!





1. Decorating the Tree — SENSORY & FINE MOTOR


Create shapes & 'ornaments' out of play dough to decorate the tree!










2. Snowflake Counting — MATH, LITERACY & FINE MOTOR


Count, add, subtract, and learn about odd & even numbers!











3. Holiday Smelling Jars — LITERACY, SENSORY & FINE MOTOR


  • Planted Creative Holiday Scent Mat Printable

  • 6 spice jars with lids (from Dollarama)

  • cotton balls, essential oils & spices/extracts (as listed on mat)

  • tray / container

Open the lid, smell, guess the scent, & place on the mat!

  • explore different holiday inspired scents!

  • opening/closing the jars is excellent for those little hand muscles





4. Hanging Christmas Lights — FINE MOTOR & MATH


  • using our DIY Clothesline

  • light clothes pins (from Dollarama)

  • you can use clothes pins & different items to hang; ie. felt pieces, baby socks, etc.


Hang the Christmas lights with care!













5. Candy Cane Counting — MATH & FINE MOTOR

  • popsicle sticks with numbers written on the ends (we did 1-12) & container

  • dice

  • tray (to contain dice)

  • decorative candy canes (from Dollarama); these were ornaments but I removed the strings

  • mini stocking to hold the candy canes

Roll the dice or pick a popsicle stick and count out the candy canes!











6. Cookie Cutter Tracing — CREATIVITY & FINE MOTOR

  • gingerbread people cookie cutters

  • pencil crayons & paper

  • tray

Trace the cookie cutter and draw/colour to customize your gingerbread person!
















7. Jingle Bell Book Play Sensory Bin — LITERACY, FINE MOTOR, MATH, SENSORY

  • a variety of bells & mini silicone presents / tree (from Dollarama)

  • crinkle paper & faux snow (from Dollarama)

  • bamboo tongs (available in our SHOP)

  • Disney's Puppy Dog Pals 'Jingle Bell Pups' Book

  • bin (from Dollar Tree)

Read the book together, then help Santa find his missing presents in the bin!








8. Pom Pom Sorting — FINE MOTOR & MATH


  • green, white, red pom poms

  • egg carton with different colours in the bottom of each section

  • tongs, tray, & container for the pom poms

Match the pom poms to the colours in each section and transfer with the tongs!





9. Snowflake Decorating Art Tray — CREATIVITY, FINE MOTOR, SENSORY

  • foam snowflakes (from Dollar Tree)

  • misc. items for decorating; we used pom poms, string, navy beans & feathers

  • craft glue

  • markers

Get that creativity flowing with this art activity! Allow your littles to decorate their snowflakes however they choose.
