"Lemonade" Water Play
It all started with a bag of lemons! In sticking with our Lemon Theme, we used fresh lemons to make our "lemonade".
When it comes to water play indoors, I prefer to use a longer, shorter plastic bin that is closer to the floor. While you will still have some water mess, it seems to stay more contained the lower it is to the ground.
TIP: Clean up made easy by using an outdoor lawn blanket or towels underneath your activity. They catch mess as littles play and can easily be shaken out and/or thrown into the wash afterwards.
(We didn't drink this batch, but we did make real lemonade a different time!)
Materials:
towels / blanket
plastic bin
lemon halves & lemon slices
tongs, spoon, slotted spoon, ladle, baster
lemon juicer (this one is from IKEA - I love it because its easy for littles to use & has a spout right on it)
water jug & cups
bowl of water with yellow food colouring
In This Activity
Fine Motor Work GALORE! — Juicing, squeezing, pouring, scooping, transferring, smelling & CHEERS'ING are all great for those little hands & muscles.
Sensory — water is simply one of the best (and most fun) sensory items! Add to this, the scent of the lemons and (although it wasn't recommended) they are sour!
Imaginative Play — our littles pretended they were making & selling lemonade.
Numeracy — Count the lemons & scoops of water!
#workingfromhomewithkids — setting out this activity for independent sensory play gives me the opportunity to get some computer work done while my little one is engaged. This last for almost two hours!
Happy playing!
